Industrial Coalescing Filters for Oil & Gas

Coalescing filters, also known as coalesce filters, are essential for removing condensate mists, moisture, and oil impurities from gaseous streams. Utilizing the principle of coalescence, these filters effectively separate fluid mixtures by causing molecules of the same fluid to clump together, forming larger fluid units.

  • Provides high-efficiency filtration for cleaner outputs.
  • Simple cleaning and component replacement minimize downtime.
  • Low pressure drop ensures long-lasting performance.
  • Cost-effective and reliable.

Coalescers are crucial in the oil and gas industry for cleaning and purifying products. Coalescing filters dry out natural gas and remove dirt and water vapor, preventing damage to equipment. They also collect oil and remove water from petrochemical feedstock before gas storage, keeping products pure and protecting machinery.

What Are Coalescer Filters?

Coalescing filters are crucial for removing oil and other contaminants from air and gas. They handle oil in liquid, aerosol, and vapor forms, which can be tough to filter out. Unlike air-oil separators that manage larger particles, coalescing filters target finer oil mists and vapors, protecting equipment and ensuring smooth operation.

These filters use borosilicate fiberglass in multiple layers to trap and remove particles. Coalescer filters can be used alone or with other systems. They come in various types, such as gas coalescers for gas mixtures and oil coalescers for oil-water mixes.

Coalescer Filter Working Principle

A pre-filter uses screens or baffles to separate fluids like gas and water. The baffles trap particles based on their weight and density, letting unwanted fluid drain away while keeping the desired fluid. In gas-water separation, "wet gas" goes into the filter, comes out as dry gas, and heavier water drops to the bottom and drains away. This removed fluid can be thrown away or recycled.

The air or gas with a fine oil mist is nevertheless carried forward. This is where coalescing filters come in the picture. The fine mist drops stick to the microfibre and slide down, merging with other fine drops to increase the total drop size. Once the drops become big enough, they drip down from the filter. Thus, the mist is not allowed to pass downstream.

FAQs

What Is Coalescing Filtration?

Coalescing filtration combines small droplets into larger ones to remove contaminants like water and oil from gases or fluids, keeping them clean and protecting equipment.

What is the Function of a Coalescing Filter Separator?

A coalescing filter separator combines small droplets into larger ones to remove water, oil, and other impurities from gases or fluids, ensuring clean output and protecting equipment.

What is the Difference Between Particulate and Coalescing Filters?

Particulate filters remove solid particles like dust by physically blocking them, while coalescing filters merge liquid droplets to remove contaminants like water and oil from gases or fluids. The drops then drain themselves via gravity

Which Forms of Coalescing Media Are There?

Coalescing media include borosilicate glass fibers for fine droplets, synthetic fibers for durability, cellulose for cost-effectiveness, and metal mesh for coarse filtration.

How Does a Coalescing Filter Work?

A coalescing filter combines small liquid droplets into larger ones. The filter media then captures these larger droplets, removing contaminants like water and oil from the fluid or gas.
