What is a sintered filter disc?

A sintered disc filter is a high-performance filtration element designed for precision and durability, compared to traditional disc filters cut out of PP or Nylon cloth. Sintered filter discs can be of two types:

  1. Powder sintered disc
  2. Multilayered sintered disc (from sintering multiple woven meshes)

Powder sintered discs are made by compacting metal powders into a disc shape and sintering them. They can be machined to a diametrical tolerance of ±0.1 mm and offer finer pore sizes than multi-layer discs, with filtration ratings as low as 0.2 microns (nominal). A wide variety of metal powders are available for making these discs, unlike the limited materials for weaving meshes used in multi-layer discs. For instance, titanium sintered discs are easier and more affordable to produce than titanium meshes.

Crafted from wire mesh sintering/diffusion-bonding, this filter uses advanced laser-cutting techniques to achieve its shape and functionality. The sintering process involves fusing the mesh at all contact points under high temperature and vacuum conditions, ensuring that the hole size, shape, and micron rating of the mesh are precisely maintained. This process is also called diffusion bonding.

Depending on the application, sintered discs can be shaped into various forms, including round, toroidal, square, oval, or fan-shaped. Custom options, such as adding outer rings, are also available to meet specific needs. Sintered metal filter discs are widely utilized in numerous industries for their reliability and efficiency in filtration tasks. They excel in gas-liquid separation, oil filtration, and fuel filtration processes. The sintered metal disc ensures consistent performance and long-lasting durability, making it an ideal choice for demanding filtration applications.

Application of Sintered Filter Disc

Sintered metal filter discs are highly versatile and effective across various industries:

  • Liquid Filtration: Removes contaminants from water using stainless steel or porous plastic, customizable for specific needs.
  • Chemical Processing: Separates and filters chemicals, removing impurities.
  • Medical Devices: Filters contaminants and regulates fluid flow in medical instruments.
  • Oil and Gas Industry: Enhances process efficiency by filtering liquids and gas.
  • Food and Beverage: Purifies liquids like juices, beer, and wine.
  • Electronics: Filters liquids in semiconductor and circuit board manufacturing. Also can be used to filter etching gases in the semiconductor industry.
  • Automotive Industry: Cleans fluids and manages air and fuel flow.
  • Mining Industry: Separates water and methane from minerals.
  • Aerospace Industry: Filters fluids and gas in aircraft production and operations.

FAQs

What are sintered metal filter discs?

Sintered metal filter discs are filtration devices made from metal powders that are heated to form a porous, durable structure, used to filter various fluids and gas.

How do sintered disc filters work?

Sintered disc filters work by allowing fluids to pass through their porous metal structure, which traps contaminants while letting clean fluid flow through.

What is a sintered metal disc made of?

A sintered metal disc is made from metal powders, such as stainless steel or titanium, which are fused together through heating to create a porous, solid filter. It can also be made of woven metal meshes that are bonded together at high temperature and pressure.

Can I customize sintered stainless steel filters?

Yes, sintered stainless steel filters can be customized in size, shape, and pore size to meet specific filtration needs.

How to clean a sintered powder filter cartridge?

Clean a sintered powder filter cartridge by backwashing with water or suitable cleaning agents, depending on the type of contaminants and the filter’s specifications.

How to choose the right sintered metal filter disc for your application?

Choose the right sintered metal filter disc based on factors like pore size, material compatibility, pressure and temperature requirements, and the specific contaminants you need to filter.

What are the pore sizes of sintered filter discs?

Sintered filter discs come in a range of pore sizes, typically from 0.2 to 150 microns, depending on the filtration needs.

Are sintered metal disc filters suitable for high-pressure applications?

Yes, sintered metal disc filters can be tailored for high-pressure applications.
